Former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has taken a swipe at Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, suggesting the former Kano State governor has become ‘politically atrophied’ after Kwankwaso revealed that his daughter advised him on political alliances for the 2023 elections.
Sowore, the African Action Congress (AAC) chieftain, made the remark on Tuesday via his official social media accounts, responding to comments Kwankwaso made during an Arise Television interview on Monday night.
During the Arise TV “Prime Time” programme on Monday, Kwankwaso disclosed that in the lead-up to the 2023 elections, his daughter had urged him to form an alliance with Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.
The former governor used the anecdote to illustrate what he described as a generational divide in Nigerian politics, arguing that younger Nigerians prioritise competent leadership over the religious and ethnic considerations often emphasised by older politicians.
“People of our age, my age, or especially the age of Atiku, are very few in this country compared to the younger people. The younger people have their own way of thinking, even our children,” Kwankwaso said during the interview.
He added, “Even in the 2023 election, in my own house, my own daughter was telling me to go and work with Peter Obi. She didn’t say she was Obidient, but she wanted me to work together with him” .
However, his explanation drew a sharp criticism from Sowore, who took to social media on Tuesday to question the former governor’s political independence.
“Mr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, if your ‘daughter’ now has to tell you who to work for in 2027, then perhaps she, who obviously knows better than you, according to your own postulation, should be the one running for President,” Sowore wrote on his 𝕏 page .
The AAC leader did not stop there, delivering a stinging assessment of Kwankwaso’s political relevance. “Clearly, you have become politically atrophied,” Sowore declared, before adding a strong moral condemnation: “Liars shall not make heaven!”.
Both Kwankwaso and Obi have since joined forces under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), a coalition that has yet to finalise its presidential ticket for the upcoming election .
