Ahead Anambra guber election, Governor Chukwuma Soludo, has described politicians in the opposition Labour Party and the African Democratic Congress as “nomadic politicians” who jump from one platform to another during elections.
Governor Soludo, who is campaigning for another term in office, used a rally in Onitsha to dismiss the credibility of candidates from the Labour Party and the African Democratic Congress.
He stated that such individuals exhibit a pattern of shifting their political allegiances. “I call them the nomadic politicians,” he told supporters, “every election year, they enter another party.”
While pledging to campaign vigorously for the November poll, the governor expressed confidence in his own position, claiming that the other hopefuls are not genuine challengers. “Although we have no contestants, we are going into the election with all seriousness. Every other contestant is looking for appointment”, he said.
He further questioned the calibre of those seeking to lead the state, invoking the legacy of revered Anambra figures to make his point. “Our opponents don’t have certificate. Gone are the days when charlatans ruled Anambra,” Prof. Soludo asserted. “This is the state of the great Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chinua Achebe, Alex Ekwueme. No unknown character will be allowed to rule Anambra again.”
The event was also used to reaffirm his administration’s policy on market taxation.
He warned petty traders against cash payments to unauthorised agents, declaring that “Anybody demanding charges from any petty trader is a thief, such money doesn’t go into government coffers.” His comments underscored a continued effort to implement a transparent, cashless system and clamp down on corrupt practices.
