A federal lawmaker representing the Tambuwal/Kebbe constituency in Sokoto State, Abdussamad Dasuki, has officially parted ways with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), announcing his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a formal resignation letter dated March 15, 2026, Dasuki informed party leaders of his exit, blaming deep-seated and ongoing internal strife within the PDP for his decision.
The lawmaker argued that the party’s current state has rendered it incapable of serving as a viable political platform.
“This decision has not been taken lightly. However, the persistent and irreconcilable leadership crises within the party have made it increasingly difficult for the party to function effectively and to play its expected role as a credible political platform,” he wrote.
Dasuki acknowledged his long-standing affiliation with the PDP, noting that he had invested significant effort into its growth over the years. However, he stated that the deteriorating environment left him with little choice but to move on.
“Over the years, I have been proud to associate with the PDP and to contribute my quota to the growth and development of the party at various levels,” the lawmaker stated. “Unfortunately, the prevailing circumstances have compelled me to take this difficult step.”
While expressing gratitude for the relationships and opportunities his time in the party afforded him, Dasuki confirmed he has now aligned with the ADC.
His departure adds to a growing list of political movements this week, following the recent defection of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s first son to the same party.
