The people of Ukpeliede Community in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State on Monday protested and barricaded access road to Renaissance Energy Oil Company Limited over alleged failure to release relevant papers to an indigenous contractor who won a contract for constructing a school building in the area.
An Elderly man of the community, Mr James Henry who spoke in an interview with newsmen during the protest said, “We are here this morning because of a contract awarded to Ukeamezhinim Nigeria Limited by Renaissance company. Instead of mobilizing the contractor to site, somebody stopped the contract.
*We are not happy.That is why we blocked the access road for the company to mobilize the contractor to site.We will not leave here until the company do the right thing”.
The protesters were carrying placards with inscriptions, “No contract award, no access to our community, “Nobody should play politics with our project”.
When contacted, Mr Innocent Nwala, representing the host community development trust but he declined comment
Also, the company Spokesperson, Mr Dayo, did not respond to some pertinent questions but promised to get back shortly.
But as at the time of filing this report, the access road to the company has remained blocked with the community, insisting on the compliance of the company with their demands.
