President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of 65 ambassadors-designate to various countries and permanent missions.
The posting saw figures like Reno Omokri, Femi Fani-Kayode, and retired Lieutenant General Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau among the nominees assigned to key diplomatic posts.
The approval, announced in a State House press release on Friday, March 6, 2026, finalises the process for the envoys who were confirmed by the Senate in December 2025.
The list comprises 34 non-career ambassadors and 31 career foreign service officers.
According to the statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the postings cover missions across Africa, Europe, Asia, the Americas, and the Middle East.
Among the non-career appointees, former presidential spokesman and author Mr. Reno Omokri has been posted to Mexico City, Mexico. Omokri, a well-known voice on social and political issues, transitions from the public commentary space to a formal diplomatic role.
Similarly, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation and prominent political strategist, has been assigned to Germany. His posting to Berlin places him at the heart of Europe’s largest economy, a critical partner for Nigeria in trade and investment.
Retired Lieutenant General Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, a former Chief of Army Staff and Minister of Interior, has been posted to Beijing, China. His appointment to the world’s second-largest economy underscores the strategic importance Nigeria places on its bilateral relations with China, particularly in infrastructure and economic cooperation.

Diplomatic Formalities Underway
The Presidency confirmed that diplomatic formalities for some of the postings have already been finalized. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has received agrément—the formal acceptance of a diplomatic envoy—from the United Kingdom for the High Commissioner-designate, Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu. Similarly, France has granted agrément for Ambassador Ayo Oke.
The Ministry has also conveyed the nominations of the remaining 62 envoys to their respective host countries and is awaiting their agréments in line with standard diplomatic practice.
President Tinubu has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately commence an induction programme for the ambassadors-designate and High Commissioners.
The program is designed to prepare the envoys for their responsibilities in representing Nigeria’s interests abroad, promoting trade and investment, and protecting the welfare of Nigerian citizens in their respective jurisdictions.
