President Bola Tinubu has directed the immediate distribution of rice to Nigerians observing the Ramadan and Lenten fasts, in a move aimed at providing relief and fostering unity during the sacred religious period.
The directive was announced on Saturday by the Director-General of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, a presidential support group, and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma. He stated that the nationwide exercise is designed to strengthen national cohesion and demonstrate compassion.
According to a statement released by the group, the initiative underscores the President’s commitment to unity, particularly during a time of deep spiritual significance for both Muslims and Christians.
“Ramadan and Lent are seasons that remind us of sacrifice, charity, and care for one another,” Uzodinma was quoted as saying. “Through this distribution, the Renewed Hope Ambassadors will ensure that families across Nigeria feel the spirit of togetherness during this sacred period.”
The Renewed Hope Ambassadors will coordinate the distribution through its extensive grassroots network to ensure that families across the country benefit from the intervention.
This latest effort follows a similar initiative during the Christmas season, where rice was distributed to assist Nigerians during the festive period, reflecting the administration’s ongoing commitment to supporting citizens during key religious and cultural observances. The distribution will cover both Christian and Muslim communities, highlighting a focus on inclusivity.
