The police commissioner in charge of the Federal Capital Territory, Ahmed Sanusi, met with area commanders and divisional police officers in the territory ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a statement on Friday in Abuja, the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, said the meeting convened by the CP was part of preparations for the forthcoming general elections.
Ms Adeh also said it was to review security strategies and strengthen operational readiness ahead of the end-of-year celebrations. She added that the meeting focused on enhancing intelligence-led operations and ensuring effective policing across Abuja.
The police commissioner directed senior police officers to strengthen proactive and visibility policing, identify potential black spots, and conduct raids to proactively handle emerging security threats.
Mr Sanusi called for sustained intelligence gathering and strict adherence to electoral security guidelines to ensure a peaceful, safe and orderly electoral process.
“As we approach the ember months and election period, I urge you to intensify patrols, surveillance and intelligence gathering. The idea is to prevent criminal activities, particularly armed robbery, kidnapping, car theft and other violent crimes.
“As you carry out your duties, you must exercise a high level of professionalism, discipline, respect for human rights and prompt response to distress calls. I urge you to also remain vigilant and proactive in the discharge of your duties,” he said.
Mr Sanusi expressed concern over the increasing road construction activities within the city centre and its potential impact on traffic flow. He directed the command’s traffic control departments and all divisional traffic officers to strengthen traffic control measures and ensure effective coordination of vehicular movements.
According to him, the idea is to curtail traffic congestion and prevent obstructions on major roads.
Mr Sanusi enjoined personnel deployed for traffic management to remain courteous and professional while ensuring free flow of traffic, particularly during peak periods.
He called on Abuja residents to remain security-conscious, promptly report suspicious movements and other suspicious activities to the nearest police station, or contact the command’s emergency lines on 08028940883, 08032003913.
