Manchester City delivered a commanding performance at Anfield on Sunday, defeating Liverpool 3-0 in the Premier League after the hosts were reduced to 10 men following Ryan Gravenberch’s dismissal.
Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki scored in the second half to seal an emphatic victory for City in the Round Six encounter.
Liverpool competed closely with City during the opening half, creating opportunities but failing to find the breakthrough. Victor Munoz came close early on, while Gianluigi Donnarumma kept City in the contest with timely interventions.
The game remained goalless at half-time, but the balance shifted dramatically after the restart.
Gravenberch was sent off in the 62nd minute after receiving a second yellow card for a foul, leaving Liverpool with 10 players at a crucial stage of the contest.
City capitalised almost immediately. Haaland opened the scoring in the 65th minute, reacting quickest to a rebound inside the penalty area before driving the ball low into the net.
Three minutes later, Doku doubled the visitors’ advantage with a powerful finish into the top-right corner after controlling a well-placed pass.
Liverpool struggled to contain City’s attacking pressure as the visitors took control of possession and searched for a third goal.
Cherki completed the rout in the 78th minute, running on to a through ball from Josko Gvardiol before firing a low shot into the middle of the goal.
Despite late attempts to respond, Liverpool could not find a way past Donnarumma. The City goalkeeper saved a free-kick from Alexis Mac Allister in the closing stages, ensuring his side maintained a clean sheet.
Liverpool’s frustration increased towards the end, with Virgil van Dijk receiving a yellow card in stoppage time as tensions rose.
