In a major covert operation, the Nigeria Police Force has apprehended two high profile bandits and kidnapping kingpins, dealing a significant blow to a criminal network responsible for terrorizing communities across multiple states.
The suspects, identified as Abubakar Usman (alias Siddi, 26) and Shehu Mohammadu (alias Gide, 30), were intercepted on Friday, December 19, 2025, along the Komen-Masallaci axis in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The operation was conducted by operatives of the Force Intelligence DepartmentโIntelligence Response Team (FIDโIRT) in collaboration with the Kwara State Police Command.
According to police statements, the arrests yielded critical recoveries, directly linking the suspects to their criminal activities:
ยท One brand new Honda Ace 125 motorcycle, purchased with ransom proceeds and valued at โฆ1,850,000.
ยท โฆ500,000 in cash, identified as unspent ransom money.
ยท One AK-47 rifle loaded with 20 rounds of live ammunition.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the duo are key members of a dangerous syndicate involved in banditry, kidnapping, and arms trafficking across Zamfara, Katsina, Niger, and Kwara States.
The police also confirmed that Abubakar Usman (Siddi) is the individual recently seen in a widely circulated viral video recklessly brandishing firearms and large sums of money.
Both suspects are reportedly cooperating with investigators to facilitate the arrest of other gang members and the recovery of more weapons.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the operatives for their professionalism and reiterated the Force’s unwavering commitment to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring public safety.
