The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old suspect in connection with the kidnapping and killing of a four-year-old boy in Bauchi.
According to the Command, the arrest followed a report made on March 21 by a resident of Nasarawa Madina Quarters, Salisu Yunusa, who informed the police that his son, Yunusa Salisu, had gone missing three days earlier. The father also reported receiving a call from an unknown number demanding a ransom of ₦500,000. He said he paid ₦100,000 in an attempt to secure the child’s release, but the boy was not returned.
Police investigations led detectives from the ‘C’ Divisional Headquarters in Bauchi to arrest the suspect, identified as Rabiu Safiyanu, who lives in the same area and was known to the family. Authorities said the suspect had regular access to the residence through his friendship with the complainant’s younger brother.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to taking the child and later abandoning the body at Warinje Hills. Police officers subsequently recovered the remains at the location.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case and ensure a thorough investigation and prosecution.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, residents were urged to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
The suspect is currently in police custody while further investigation continues.
