The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has publicly welcomed an investigation by the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force into allegations of signature forgery made by the party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
The partyโs National Publicity Secretary, Honourable Debo Ologunagba, addressed journalists at the party’s secretariat on Monday, where he presented a stack of documents which he said proved Senator Anyanwuโs active involvement in the processes he is now disputing.
The bone of contention stems from a 25 August 2025 letter sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which bore the signatures of the National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, and Senator Anyanwu. The letter informed INEC of the party’s plan to hold its National Elective Convention in Ibadan on 15 November.
However, Anyanwu petitioned the DSS and the Inspector General of Police, alleging that his signature on the letter was forged and calling for the arrest and prosecution of those responsible.
In response, the PDP leadership has not only welcomed the probe but turned the tables on the National Secretary. Ologunagba stated that Senator Anyanwu was present at the crucial National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings where the convention was planned and had personally co signed numerous letters related to the event.
โAnyanwu not only attended both the 24 July and 25 August National Executive Committee meetings of the party, but also co-signed all letters emanating from the meetings to implement directives of the PDP regarding the Ibadan convention,โ Ologunagba said.
He presented copies of four specific letters from the 25 August meeting that were co-signed by Anyanwu, including the official notice to INEC, a letter on the convention planning committee, and notices for repeat congresses.
โAll these letters were signed by him and the national chairman,โ Ologunagba added, insisting that โyou can have alternative propaganda and not alternative facts.โ
The party spokesman framed the allegation as a serious and calculated act. โWe welcome the investigation. Let the security agencies go ahead with their investigation,โ he said, adding a stark warning. โThis is a calculated attempt to derail the party and the convention. This is criminal, as forgery is a very serious allegation, and the security must take this seriously.โ
He concluded by emphasising the legal stakes for the accuser, noting that โthose who have chosen the path of propaganda, of making allegations, must also provide the proof.โ He reminded the security agencies that โdeliberate misinformationโ is a crime, and โthere are personal consequences for deliberate misinformation. He who alleges must prove.โ
