The Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denounced the constitution of a National Caretaker Committee by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and his associates, declaring it null, void, and of no effect.
In a press statement issued on Monday and signed by the party’s factional National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the party asserted that all its critical organs, including the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the Board of Trustees (BoT), remain fully intact and functional under the legitimate leadership of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN.
The party described the announced committee as a “fictitious” creation, designed solely to coordinate the personal political affairs of a group of individuals who have been expelled from the PDP, with certificates of expulsion as evidence.
“It is important to remind the public that Minister Wike, acting through his agents Alhaji Mohammed Abdulrahman and Senator Sam Anyanwu, is currently a plaintiff in a suit before the Federal High Court, Abuja, seeking to nullify the party’s convention,” Ememobong stated.
The statement highlighted that the court, presided over by Honourable Justice J.O. Abdulmalik, had on November 21, 2025, refused an application for an interim injunction and cautioned all parties against actions that could undermine the eventual judgment.
The PDP contends that by proceeding to announce a caretaker committee, the Wike-led group has acted in clear contempt of this court order and has fundamentally altered the status of their own pending lawsuit.
“This latest drama represents nothing but a further deepening of the trenches of illegality they have been digging since 2023,” the statement read, accusing the group of aiming to “politically incapacitate the PDP and obstruct its role as the main opposition party in Nigeria.”
The PDP further characterised the move as an escalation of absurdity, now “weaponised” and serving the playbook of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). It reassured its members and the Nigerian public that despite these distractions, the party remains firmly on a path of rebirth, anchored on the principles of transparency, equity, honesty, and inclusiveness.
“The public is already familiar with the comical spectacle that this group has become,” Ememobong concluded, dismissing the group’s activities as a “sympathy party” lacking any legitimacy or authority.
