A two-year debt allegedly owed by veteran journalist and politician, Dele Momodu, has finally been settled, not by him, but by an aide to Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike.

The N380,000 catering bill, which was said had remained unpaid for two years after Momodu allegedly contracted Black Diamond Kitchen for small chops and waiters during a 2022 political event, was cleared on Friday, July 25, 2025, by Lere Olayinka, a media associate of Wike.
In a message directed at Momodu, Olayinka wrote: “Good morning Ẹ̀gbọ́n Délé Mọ̀ọ́mọ́dù. I wish to inform you that I have finally and completely settled the N380k SMALL CHOPS debt you owed BLACK DIAMOND KITCHEN.”
He attached a payment receipt and a short video of a staff of the restaurant as proof, showing the final balance of N180,000 paid to the restaurant.
According to Lere, the debt stemmed from services rendered during the presidential campaign of Atiku Abubakar, where Momodu served as Director of Strategic Communications.
According to Ifeoma Obu, a staff member of Black Diamond Kitchen, the small chops and waiters were supplied for a political event, but Momodu allegedly refused to pay afterward. Olayinka, however, stepped in, stating: “Well, I have paid the N380,000 and cleared your name from Black Diamond Kitchen’s book of DEBTORS.”
He humorously added, “Egbon, you don’t need to thank me, just ensure that you pay next time you order SMALL CHOPS, Sir. E no good to dey chop foods without paying, Sir.”
A video circulating online shows staff of Black Diamond Kitchen confirmed the Olayinka’s claims and expressing gratitude for settling the long overdue debt. She could be heard saying, “God bless you, sir!
As of the time of filing this report, Dele Momodu has not publicly responded to the incident.
