The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with a farmer-herder clash in Guda Village, Ningi Local Government Area, which resulted in the death of a 40-year-old man and the burning of houses.
The command disclosed this in a press release issued on Friday by its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib.
According to the police, the incident occurred on September 23, 2026, at about 7:40 a.m., when three farmers from Guda Village allegedly found cattle belonging to a herder grazing on and destroying their crops on Guda Hill.
The farmers reportedly chased the cattle to the herders’ settlement, where an argument broke out and escalated into a physical fight, leaving the three farmers injured.
The command said some youths from Guda Village subsequently mobilised in retaliation and set houses ablaze at the herders’ settlement.
Police operatives from Ningi Division responded to the incident, restored normalcy and evacuated the injured to General Hospital, Ningi, for treatment.
However, one of the injured farmers, identified as Usman Jibrin, later died while receiving treatment.
The police said the four suspects were arrested on October 8 following intelligence-led operations.
They are being investigated for alleged criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt, mischief by fire and culpable homicide.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the suspects be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for a thorough and discreet investigation.
Aliyu expressed condolences to the deceased’s family and sympathised with those who lost property in the incident.
He warned residents against taking the law into their own hands, assuring that the command would pursue justice in the case.
The police commissioner also called on communities across the state, particularly farmers and herders, to embrace dialogue and peaceful coexistence to prevent further violence.
