Kenneth Okonkwo, spokesperson for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has criticised Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) over Obi’s presence at the inauguration of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s presidential campaign office in Abuja.
In an interview on News Central, Okonkwo said the event was an APM affair and questioned why Obi and other opposition figures attended.
“As far as I’m concerned, that is an APM affair and it should be attributed to APM,” Okonkwo said.
He also took a swipe at Obi and others present, suggesting they would attend any event they were invited to.
“Those people that were there, even if you had invited them for naming ceremony or birthday party, they are known for people who like to wave to people,” Okonkwo said.
“Even if there’s no crowd, they will still be waving to trees. It’s just normal for them. If you’re doing anything and you call them they will come.”
At the event, Peter Obi described Makinde as qualified to run for president in 2027.
Obi also cautioned against reducing the 2027 election to personal quarrels or ethnic divisions, saying the contest should focus on issues affecting Nigerians.
With Makinde signalling interest in the presidency, and Obi and Atiku Abubakar also in the race, the opposition field is becoming crowded.
