Former Nigerian senator Shehu Sani has praised ex-Imo State governor Rochas Okorocha for his decades-long contributions to Northern Nigeria, calling him the most dedicated Igbo philanthropist in the region’s development.
Shehu Sani, in a Sunday morning social media post, appeared to take an indirect jab at Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate who started philanthropic initiatives in northern Nigeria since his campaign. At the same time, he highlighted Rochas Okorocha’s 35 years of educational and humanitarian work in the region.
Sani argued that Okorocha’s contributions had been overlooked by a society drowned in politics and perennial deceit. He insisted his remarks were not politically motivated but rather an acknowledgment of selfless service.
“No man from the South Eastern Part of Nigeria has so much dedicated his life and resources for the uplifting and developing Northern Nigeria like Chief Rochas Okorocha for over 35 years”.
“This is not politics but an appreciation and a reminder of good people whose selfless service and generosity was forgotten or ignored by a society drowned in politics and perennial deceit”.
Okorocha, a two-term governor and founder of the Rochas Foundation, has long operated free schools across Northern states, offering education to underprivileged children. Despite his controversial political career, his humanitarian work has earned bipartisan recognition.
The former Imo State governor has been out of the political space since after the expiration of his tenure.
