Troops of the Nigerian Army operating under Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA and Joint Task Force South East Operation UDO KA have intensified ongoing offensives against criminal elements across the country, recording fresh operational successes in both the North West and South East regions.
The military said the operations led to the arrest of suspected criminals and the recovery of arms, ammunition, and other incriminating items during separate security missions conducted in Kaduna State and Abia State.
According to the Army, the latest operations form part of broader efforts aimed at strengthening internal security, dismantling criminal networks, and denying armed groups freedom of operation across troubled areas of the country.
In the North West theatre, troops of 2 Battalion deployed at the Forward Operating Base Dogon Dawa carried out a snap roadblock operation at Damari on May 8, 2026.
During the operation, troops intercepted a 32-year-old suspect identified as Ibrahim Adamu while he was reportedly riding on a motorcycle through the area.
Military authorities disclosed that a search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of one AK-47 magazine, three mobile phones, suspected Indian hemp, and other items.
Further exploitation of the suspect’s mobile phone reportedly uncovered photographs allegedly showing him dressed in military camouflage and carrying a PKT machine gun alongside other suspected bandits.
Security sources described the discovery as significant, noting that criminal groups increasingly use military-style attire and sophisticated weapons to carry out attacks and evade security surveillance within vulnerable communities across the North West.
The suspect and recovered items are currently in military custody as investigations continue.
In a separate operation in the South East, troops of 14 Brigade under Joint Task Force South East Operation UDO KA responded to a distress call on May 9, 2026, concerning the suspected illegal possession of a firearm at Umuoriehe Village.
Acting on credible intelligence, troops swiftly mobilised to the location where they arrested a 22-year-old suspect identified as Ifeanyi Ezebuiro.
During the operation, security personnel recovered a foreign-made Ruger pistol allegedly found in the suspect’s possession.
According to preliminary findings, the suspect claimed that the firearm belonged to his late father. However, military authorities stated that both the suspect and the recovered weapon remain in custody pending further investigation.
The Nigerian Army said the operations reflect its sustained determination to combat insecurity and prevent criminal elements from establishing operational footholds across various regions of the country.
Military authorities further reiterated their commitment to aggressive counter-crime and counterterrorism operations aimed at safeguarding lives and property while preserving national peace and territorial integrity.
The Army also urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information capable of assisting ongoing operations and improving security nationwide.
