The National Leadership of the Labour Party (LP), recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and led by Senator Nenadi Usman, has formally petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) demanding the immediate arrest and prosecution of Mr. Julius Abure and eleven others over the alleged violent invasion of the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
The call was made on Monday during a world press briefing at the party national secretariat in Abuja. The party accused Abure and his associates of orchestrating a nighttime raid on the secretariat located at No. 2 IBM Haruna Street, Utako, on Tuesday, 10th February 2026.
According to the faction, the attack constitutes criminal trespass, armed robbery, theft, assault, and a direct assault on the rule of law.
The party leadership, under Chairman Senator Nenadi Usman and National Secretary Senator Darlington Nwokocha, stated that the invasion occurred hours after they had concluded an official visit to the secretariat to receive a progress report from the Membership Registration and Revalidation Committee.
“At approximately 8:30pm that same day, the Secretariat was violently invaded by individuals allegedly led by Mr. Julius Abure and his associates. Eyewitness accounts from the gatemen on duty confirm that the attackers were armed, aggressive, and destructive,” the statement read.
The LP leadership alleged that the invaders, wielding weapons, held the gatemen at gunpoint, assaulted them, and destroyed billboards bearing the images of Senators Usman and Nwokocha.
The faction further claimed that sensitive party documents, financial records, laptops, desktop computers, and other critical assets were carted away during the 30-minute operation.
“During the operation, which lasted over 30 minutes, sensitive party documents, financial records, official registration materials, laptops, desktops, gatemen phones and other critical assets were carted away. This was not politics; it was criminality of the highest order,” the party asserted.
Judicial Backing and Legal Standing
The Usman-led faction emphasised that its authority is backed by the Supreme Court and the Federal High Court. It referenced the Supreme Court judgment of 4th April 2025 and a Federal High Court enrolled order of 21st January 2026, which it says affirm Senators Usman and Nwokocha as the valid leadership of the party and which INEC has subsequently complied with.
Consequently, the faction declared that Mr. Abure and his associates have no legal standing within the party’s structure, labeling their continued actions as “impersonation.”
“Mr. Julius Abure, Mr. Ayo Olorunfemi, and their business associates are unknown to the Labour Party as leaders. They have no locus, no authority, and no legal standing whatsoever within the Party’s structure,” the statement clarified.
Security Response and Demand for Justice
While commending the Nigeria Police Force for their “professional and neutral intervention” that prevented further escalation on the night of the incident, the party has demanded a full-scale investigation.
The leadership specifically called on the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) to activate a “Criminal Prosecution Order” dated 7th March 2025 concerning Abure and others regarding previous indictments for alleged perjury and forgery.
“We reiterate our demand that the named individuals and their accomplices be promptly investigated, arrested, and prosecuted in accordance with Nigerian law; that all stolen assets be recovered; that full compensation be paid for damages,” the party demanded.
The petition names Julius Abure, Umar Farouk Ibrahim, Kennedy Ahanotu, Dr. Olorunfemi, Arabambi Abayomi, and six others, including an alleged DSS operative, as the perpetrators.
Despite the crisis, the Nenadi Usman-led leadership maintained that the party is moving forward with its scheduled membership registration and plans for congresses leading to a National Convention.
