The ongoing personal saga involving Nollywood actor Yul Edochie, his second wife, Judy Austin, and his estranged wife, May Edochie, has escalated dramatically with new legal action and the leak of a private marital argument.
May Edochie has launched a significant legal offensive against her former lawyer, Emeka Ugwuonye, and a US-based commentator, Yinka Theisen. Through her new legal team, Graylaw Partners, she is demanding N1bn in damages. She has accused them of “cyberbullying, cyberstalking, and false publications.”
In a formal letter, her lawyers stated, “Our client has expressed deep displeasure and grave concern over your incessant public posts. Your conduct has instigated third parties to propagate your disturbing communications, thereby amplifying the damage and causing our client severe and irreparable harm.” May demanded a full retraction, a public apology, and the immediate withdrawal of all related online posts.
In response, Yinka Theisen hit back on social media, directly addressing May with the declaration, “You attacked my kids, shared my number. May Yul-Edochie, enough is enough. Leave me alone!”
Emeka Ugwuonye welcomed the lawsuit, stating it gave him a platform to “shed light on the truth.” He has since used social media to mount a fierce defence, alleging that May lied about her marriage and the subsequent divorce proceedings. He publicly shared screenshots of what he claimed were private chats with May, branding her a “manipulative and pretentious liar” and threatening to release more evidence.
“If you see the chats between us, you will understand how fake May is,” Ugwuonye alleged. He further claimed, “Yul was the breadwinner,” and asserted that May had “condoned Judy’s presence in Yul’s life for years.” He also disputed May’s account of a past incident, claiming her story about Yul threatening her with a gun was false.
Simultaneously, the relationship between Yul Edochie and Judy Austin appears to be under strain. A leaked voice note circulated online this week, purportedly featuring Judy accusing Yul of neglecting his responsibilities. In the recording, she is heard saying, “This is just the beginning. It’s game on. If you don’t want to do the needful, no problem. I am ready.”
Yul fired back in the same exchange, asking what “needful” she referred to and issuing a stern warning. He was heard threatening, “One morning, I will just wake up and tell you that this is the end of this whole rubbish, and everybody will go their separate ways.” A stunned Judy asked if he was threatening her, but the recording ended without a further response from Yul.
The couple, who have built a public image on playful videos and affection, now face intense speculation about the stability of their union. While some social media users have expressed satisfaction at the prospect of their marriage failing, others suspect the couple may be deliberately fuelling controversy to maintain their public relevance.
With May pursuing a billion-naira claim, her former lawyer vowing to expose what he calls the truth, and Yul and Judy’s relationship appearing to fracture in a very public manner, the multi-sided Edochie family drama shows no sign of concluding. The situation continues to unfold across court papers and social media, captivating public attention.
