A young man identified simply as Chisom has been killed in Ihiala, Anambra State, after a dispute with his cousin over a phone charger turned violent.
The incident, which occurred on December 19, escalated when Chisom went to retrieve his charger from his yet-to-be-identified cousin. An argument ensued and degenerated into a physical fight, during which the cousin allegedly stabbed Chisom multiple times.
According to a report posted on Tuesday by an anti-cultism advocacy platform, Confra Naija, the victim’s uncleāthe father of the suspectāalso joined in the attack, which led to Chisomās death.
The platform stated that both the cousin and the uncle were later arrested. It also reported that youths in the community reacted by setting the uncleās house on fire.
A video seen by our correspondent showed the deceased lying on a hospital bed while family members mourned.
The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, could not be reached for comment, as calls to his line went unanswered and a text message was not replied to at the time of filing this report.
Fatal violence stemming from family disputes over seemingly minor issues has been reported in the state before.
In September, the police arrested a 45-year-old man, Okwuchukwu Ezimuo, for allegedly stabbing a relative to death during a quarrel over a family land dispute in Awka-Etiti.
