Abubakar Malami, the former Attorney-General of the Federation, has confirmed his compliance with an invitation from the Department of State Services (DSS) concerning the violent attack on his convoy in Kebbi State earlier this month.
The senior advocate disclosed the development in a statement shared on his Facebook page on Monday, marking a formal step in the investigation into the September 1st incident.
The attack, which saw suspected political thugs target Malami’s motorcade in Birnin Kebbi, left approximately ten vehicles damaged and several of his supporters injured.
In his statement, Malami directly acknowledged the DSS summons, stating, “I can confirm that I have been invited by the Department of State Services (DSS) to support investigation over attack on my person and convoy in Kebbi State on the 1st of September, 2025.”
He suggested that the invitation was linked to a petition filed by his political opponents, noting, “The petition is apparently triggered by opposition high profile political elements in the state.”
Despite the contentious backdrop, Malami praised the security agency for its professional conduct. “I must commend the DSS for the professional and transparent manner in which they have conducted their inquiry. I was treated with dignity and respect, and I remain committed to cooperating fully with the Department to ensure that their investigation is concluded successfully,” he said.
The event under investigation occurred shortly after Malami returned to his home state on a condolence visit. Since the attack, the political climate in Kebbi has been tense. Malami, who recently defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has publicly accused loyalists of Governor Nasir Idris of being behind the assault.
Prior to the DSS invitation, Malami had escalated his concerns to the highest levels of national security. On September 10, he petitioned the National Security Adviser, the Inspector-General of Police, and the heads of other security agencies, alleging a plot by politicians to destabilize Kebbi State through the importation of foreign mercenaries from the Niger Republic.
