In a strong show of support for the Lagos State Government, the Lekki Automobile Dealers Union has publicly endorsed the ongoing demolition exercise along the Lekki-Ajah axis, while issuing a stern warning against what it terms โmalicious and misinformed narrativesโ circulating on social media.
The union, in a public notice on Sunday, clarified that the clearance of structures is a government-led initiative by the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, describing it as โan important step towards improving environmental safety and infrastructure management.โ
Contrary to any negative online reports, the union confirmed that it was duly notified well in advance and was given a grace period and necessary support to relocate its vehicles from the affected lots.
The statement extended โsincere appreciationโ to the Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, and the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, for their โunderstanding, communication and coordination throughout this process.โ
The union emphasised that the exercise is a vital measure for safeguarding lives and properties. It specifically cited the need to properly manage drainage channels to prevent flooding and to mitigate safety risks posed by high-tension electric cables.
โAs responsible citizens and partners in progress, we remain committed to supporting the efforts of the Lagos State Government towards creating a safer, cleaner and better-organized environment for all,โ the statement read. It then categorically distanced the union from any misleading information about the exercise.
Acknowledging potential temporary disruptions, the union also appealed for patience from its valued customers, assuring them that it is working diligently to restore operations and continue delivering its trusted quality of service.
The statement concluded by thanking the public for their continued support and patronage.
