A Correspondent with Leadership Newspapers, Mr. Khalid Idris Doya, has expressed disappointment over what he described as the silence of the All Progressives Congress (APC) three months after his vehicle was allegedly stolen while covering the party’s state congress in Bauchi.
The incident occurred on March 3, 2026, when Doya attended the APC State Congress at the party’s Next Level Secretariat along Maiduguri Road, Bauchi, following an official invitation to provide media coverage of the event.
According to the journalist, he arrived at the venue with his Pontiac Vibe 2004 model vehicle, bearing Chassis Number 5Y2SL62833Z408918 and Plate Number BAU-100HB, and parked it within the vicinity of the secretariat before joining other journalists to cover the proceedings.
Doya explained that the vehicle was parked between 4:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. while the congress was underway.
However, upon returning after the event, he discovered that the car had been stolen by unknown persons, allegedly taking advantage of the large crowd that gathered at the venue.
“I was officially invited to cover the proceedings of the APC State Congress. Unfortunately, while carrying out my professional duty, my vehicle was stolen within the vicinity of the congress venue,” he said.
The journalist said the matter was immediately reported to the Divisional Police Officer of ‘A’ Division, Bauchi, and that all necessary information regarding the vehicle was provided to security agencies to aid investigation and recovery efforts.
Despite the report and subsequent efforts by law enforcement agencies, Doya said no information has been received regarding the whereabouts of the vehicle.
He further revealed that the leadership of the APC in Bauchi State was formally informed of the incident both verbally and through written communication.
However, more than three months after the theft, the party is yet to publicly sympathise with him or offer any form of assistance or compensation.
The development has continued to attract concern among media practitioners, particularly as the incident occurred while the journalist was performing an assignment on behalf of the political party.
