Former Jigawa State Governor and PDP stalwart Sule Lamido has strongly criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the party of poor governance and calling for political change.
During an ARISE News interview on Tuesday, the opposition leader expressed his view that Nigeria would benefit from new leadership, stating the APC had not delivered on its promises to citizens.
โWe must remove this cancer called APC, which we can call malaria, cancer level 4,โ he said. โAPC is our problem. We must remove that corruption, which has become a cancer in Nigeria. And it has to be excised out.โ
He warned Nigerians against re-electing the APC or any of its leaders in future elections, arguing that the partyโs failures have been consistent across different administrations.
โAPC in 2014, 2019, 2023. Itโs the same thing. If Tinubu is Buhari, theyโre all APC. Never vote for them because itโs a failure of the party and party leaders of Nigeria,โ Lamido said.
While backing the idea of a political coalition to counter APC dominance, Lamido stressed that the focus should be on uniting Nigerians around key national issues, not personalities.
โIโm willing to support any arrangement, by whatever nomenclature, especially now, to restore Nigeria. Itโs not about Tinubu. Itโs about APC,โ he said.
Lamido maintained that for democracy to thrive, the political discourse must shift from individuals to institutions and ideologies, urging stakeholders to stop โdiverging about the issueโ and instead โbecome focused on the issue.โ
The former minister of foreign affairs also questioned the commitment of some opposition figures, urging them to โslow downโ and build strong party structures rather than floating on what he described as โnothing.โ
