The Lagos State Police Command has deployed joint police teams across Alimosho Local Government Area in what it described as a strategic move to protect lives and property, prevent a breakdown of law and order, and reinforce public confidence in safety across Lagos State. The command announced the operation in a statement signed by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Babasayi B. Oluseyi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, noting that the measure was part of its constitutional mandate to ensure peace, law, and order in Nigeria’s commercial hub.
The deployment, which began on September 4, 2025, covers Alimosho and other parts of the state. The command explained that it had mobilized conventional police officers, tactical squads, and anti-riot units to patrol the areas with a clear focus on crime prevention and control. “The Command deployed joint Police teams of conventional Police, the tactical squads and anti-riot Police units to patrol the entire area of Alimosho LGA and other parts of Lagos State for Crime Prevention and Control, and to nip in the bud any likely disturbance of Public peace and safety throughout the State,” the statement read. It added that the purpose was to reassure citizens, remove the fear of crime from their minds, and demonstrate the police force’s responsibility to maintain public safety.
The operation came against the backdrop of allegations from a political party accusing the Lagos police of bias in favor of its rivals. The command strongly refuted the claim, describing it as a false and misleading narrative aimed at discrediting the force. “The allegations by a section of a Political Party of the Police Personnel supporting one Political Party against the other is completely false, misleading and a disservice to the Lagos State Police Command,” the statement declared. It emphasized that the police remain impartial, professional, and guided strictly by their constitutional responsibilities.
To underline its neutrality, the command clarified that no official complaints or petitions had been lodged by any political party or individual at any police station within Alimosho or in other parts of Lagos regarding clashes, attacks, or counterattacks. “For the avoidance of doubt, the Command wishes to categorically state that, uptill now there was no any complaint or report by any Political Party or any individuals at any Police Station anywhere in Alimosho LGA or any other Police formation throughout Lagos State regarding any attack or counter attack on any person or group of persons or on property throughout Alimosho LGA or in any other location in Lagos State,” it said.
The statement went on to stress that officers on duty conducted themselves with utmost professionalism, noting, “The Police teams deployed out were very professional and polite, they provided adequate security and protection to all and are non-partisan. At no time were Police officers from the Lagos State Police Command provided cover to any of the Political Party member(s) to attack members of the opposite Political Party as claimed in the report.”
Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh also used the opportunity to caution political stakeholders and residents against spreading unfounded claims. He maintained that his leadership operates transparently and that genuine concerns should be directed to the police for proper investigation. “The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, who operates an open-door policy, urges political stakeholders and residents to channel genuine complaints to the Police rather than resorting to mischief and blackmail to mislead the public. He assures that all credible complaints will be promptly and fairly addressed,” the statement quoted.
The commissioner further appealed to Lagosians to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring them of the safety of their neighborhoods. “The Commissioner of Police further appeals to Lagosians to remain law-abiding and go about their duties and other responsibilities without fear or apprehension, as the entire State is peaceful,” the command said. It added that the police remain committed to fairness, professionalism, and integrity “in the collective interest of safety and security of the good people of Lagos State.”
The police command’s latest response underscores the sensitive atmosphere in Alimosho, Lagos’ most populous local government area, where political competition has often been tense in the past. By restating its neutrality, the command is seeking to douse fears of political interference while assuring Lagos residents that its priority remains protecting lives and ensuring peace across the state.
