Operatives of the Ikeja Division of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested two suspected armed robbers who were caught in the act of dispossessing unsuspecting residents of their valuables around the Shoprite Ikeja and Maryland axis.
The suspects, identified as Segun Adeyemi, 32, and Abayomi Ajayi, 24, were arrested on Monday, September 29, 2025, at about 7:15 p.m. following a swift police response to a distress call from members of the public. They were said to be part of a three-man gang operating on a motorcycle in the area.
According to police sources, operatives of the Ikeja Division received a call that a gang of robbers on a motorcycle were attacking passersby and motorists within Ikeja. Officers immediately mobilized to the scene, where they engaged the suspects in a brief chase. Two members of the gang were apprehended on the spot, while the third escaped. The operational motorcycle used by the gang was recovered and taken into custody as evidence.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects had come from Mushin into Ikeja to carry out their criminal activities before luck ran out on them. Police authorities said that the gang specialized in using motorcycles to quickly attack and rob unsuspecting victims before fleeing the scene.
The arrested suspects are currently in custody, while an intensive manhunt is ongoing to apprehend the third suspect who remains at large. The Lagos State Police Command has assured that all suspects involved will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, praised the operatives for their swift and professional response, noting that such timely interventions prevent further harm to innocent residents. He also commended members of the public whose prompt reporting aided the police in apprehending the suspects.
In his words:
“We remain committed to ridding Lagos of criminal elements. I want to assure Lagosians that their safety is our top priority. We call on residents to continue to partner with us by providing timely and credible information that will help us prevent crime and apprehend offenders.”
The police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed that efforts are being intensified to track down the fleeing gang member. She also reiterated the Command’s call for greater community-police collaboration, stressing that intelligence gathering remains crucial in the fight against crime.
The arrest of the suspects has since restored calm in the Ikeja–Maryland corridor, as police patrols have been reinforced in the area to forestall further criminal activity.
