The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a scathing rebuttal against veteran journalist Dele Momodu, describing him as a “serial political tourist” who lacks the moral and strategic authority to offer counsel to the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party’s response came following Momodu’s recent comments, which it characterized as an “outburst,” where he reportedly advised the opposition to leverage ethnic politics to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Mogaji (Hon) Seye Oladejo, on Friday, the APC stated that it noted Momodu’s remarks “with characteristic amusement,” questioning his political credentials.
“We must question the audacity and credentials of a man whose own political history is nothing but a long tale of experiments, misadventures, and failed auditions for relevance,” the statement read.
The party was particularly dismissive of Momodu’s strategic value, linking him to a failed presidential aspirant.
“What moral or strategic authority does Dele Momodu possess to lecture anyone about political strategy? A man who is literally attached to the apron strings of a career presidential aspirant. A presidential candidate whose electoral outing was so embarrassing that even his polling agents couldn’t locate his tally on the result sheet?”
The Lagos APC asserted that Momodu’s own record “reads like a manual on how not to win in politics – loud on commentary, empty on substance, and perpetually chasing validation from political heavyweights who never take him seriously.”
Labelling his advice as “sheer comic relief,” the party stated that his relevance is confined to social media and that Nigerians are now focused on performance over identity politics.
“Let it be known that the days of weaponizing ethnicity as a shortcut to power are long gone. The Nigerian electorate has evolved. They are now focused on who can deliver results, not who can divide the nation,” the statement declared.
The party went on to frame the upcoming 2027 election as a contest of substance over showmanship.
“The 2027 election will be a referendum on competence and performance, not on ethnicity or nostalgia. And in that contest, Dele Momodu’s brand of political showmanship will have no place.”
Concluding with a final jab, the APC advised the opposition to seek better guides, stating, “If the opposition is truly desperate for guidance, perhaps the first counsel they should heed is to stop listening to those who have never won anything – not even a councillorship election.”
