Kaduna State is set to host the pilot phase of the Nigeria-China Poultry Project, a major agricultural investment projected to generate more than $450m in revenue and create over 350,000 jobs.
Governor Uba Sani announced this on Wednesday when he received the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, alongside officials of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP) in Kaduna. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in agriculture and enhancing foreign investment in the state.
Describing the engagement as “a defining stride” in Kaduna’s economic development agenda, Sani said the initiative aligns with the administration’s commitment to positioning the state as a continental hub for agricultural and industrial growth.
He thanked President Bola Tinubu for choosing Kaduna as the pilot location, noting that the decision reflects the state’s leadership in agricultural productivity. “With agriculture contributing 43 per cent to our GDP and employing more than 60 per cent of our citizens, this partnership will accelerate our pursuit of higher productivity, sustainable growth, food security, and broad-based prosperity,” Sani said.
Ambassador Dunhai lauded Kaduna’s progress and praised its efforts in building an environment conducive to international investors, saying its stability and reform-driven leadership made it a top destination for development partners.
Director-General of the NCSP, Joseph Tegbe, also commended the state for swiftly approving and allocating more than 7,000 hectares of land for the project’s immediate take-off.
The Nigeria-China Poultry Project will be executed through a Special Purpose Vehicle under the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Fund, involving the Chinese Government and Kaduna State Government. Construction is scheduled to begin in December.
The initiative will expand over 10,000 hectares dedicated to maize and soybean cultivation to support feedstock production. It is projected to create 50,000 direct jobs and more than 300,000 indirect jobs across the poultry and agribusiness value chain.
