The Independent National Electoral Commission has uploaded results from 2,048 of the 2,445 polling units in Saturday’s Ekiti State governorship election to its Result Viewing Portal, achieving an 83.7 percent completion rate as of 6:41 p.m.
This marks a significant acceleration from the 35.5 percent recorded just 30 minutes earlier at 6:12 p.m., indicating a rapid push by the electoral body to transmit results from across the state’s 16 local government areas.
The off-cycle election, which determines who will govern the southwestern state for the next four years, features a 14-candidate race. Incumbent Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress is seeking a second term before his current tenure expires in October.
His primary challengers include Oluwole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party, Oluwadare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress, Oyebanji Olajuyin of the Labour Party, and Blessing Abegunde of the New Nigeria Peoples Party. The remaining candidates are drawn from smaller political parties, including the AAC, ADP, Accord, APM, APP, PRP, and ZLP.
INEC continues to receive and upload result sheets from collation centers across the state as presiding officers transmit scanned copies of polling unit results through the commission’s dedicated portal.
The IReV system, introduced to enhance electoral transparency, allows the public to view results in real-time as they are uploaded, providing an additional layer of verification against physical collation at ward and local government levels.
As of the latest update, approximately 397 polling units are yet to have their results uploaded, with collation officers working to close remaining gaps as returns continue to arrive from remote locations.
The commission has assured stakeholders that all valid results will be uploaded before the conclusion of the collation process, which is expected to continue through Sunday.
