The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stated that the opposition Labour Party currently has no recognised national chairman.
This confirmation was provided by INEC’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Mrs. Victoria Eta-Messi, during an interview on Channels Television. She clarified that the question of leadership is unresolved, stating simply, “The matter is in court for now.”
This declaration follows a recent Supreme Court judgement which overturned previous rulings that had recognised Julius Abure as chairman. The apex court ruled that such internal party disputes are not for the courts to decide.
Despite the ruling, both Mr. Abure and his rival, Senator Nenadi Usman, have claimed victory, leaving the party in a state of unresolved conflict and without an officially recognised leader.
