The Delta State Police Command has announced the arrest of more than 80 suspected criminals for various offences across the state in the past month.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday at the Command’s headquarters in Asaba, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, said the intensified clampdown on criminal activities is yielding positive results.
Olufemi assured residents that the Command would sustain its intelligence-led operations, adding that the recent successes show that Delta is becoming increasingly unsafe for criminal elements.
“Deltans can attest to the fact that in recent times, the state has become very hot for criminals. The command under my watch will not relent in this mandate and will continue to go after criminally minded individuals to ensure they are arrested and brought to justice,” Olufemi said.
According to him, several armed robbery operations in Asaba, Ughelli, Ogwashi-Uku, and other communities led to multiple arrests and the recovery of weapons, including pump-action rifles, Beretta pistols, and double-barrel guns. The police also seized stolen motorcycles, vehicles, laptops, phones, and household electronics.
Within August 2025 alone, the Command recovered 31 firearms, 86 rounds of ammunition and cartridges, as well as dozens of stolen vehicles, laptops, and mobile phones.
The commissioner further disclosed that a 35-year-old suspect from Edo State was apprehended while attempting to sell stolen vehicles for ₦2 million each. In Ughelli, operatives also arrested a 52-year-old woman identified as a major drug dealer, along with her apprentices.
“The raid was made possible through credible intelligence in relation to the activities of some persons known for drug peddling within Afisere/Ughelli town,” Olufemi explained.
A massive haul of controlled substances was seized during the operation, including 355 bottles of codeine, hundreds of tramadol rolls, and quantities of Canadian liquid cannabis.
The Command also dismantled a syndicate specialising in hypnotising victims, looting bank accounts, and defrauding them of valuables. Police recovered two Toyota Camry cars, 16 suspected stolen iPhones, and evidence of fraud amounting to over ₦23.5 million.
This development comes just 24 hours after the Nasarawa State Police Command announced the arrest of nine suspects and the recovery of 4,264 rounds of ammunition during operations across its 13 local government areas.
Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed, who briefed journalists in Lafia on Tuesday, described the recovery as a “major breakthrough” in the fight against violent crime. He said officers intercepted a large cache of firearms and ammunition in Keana Local Government Area following sustained intelligence-led operations.
Mohammed assured residents that the Command remains committed to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring safety in all communities across the state.
