The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that all 22 registered political parties have successfully submitted their membership registers to the Commission.
The submission, which was completed on May 8, 2026, came two days before the extended deadline of May 10, 2026. This follows an earlier extension granted by INEC after political parties raised concerns about the original timeline of April 21, 2026, during a meeting held on March 24, 2026.
According to a press statement issued by the Commission on Friday, the adjustment was made to align with Section 77(4) of the Electoral Act 2026 and the actual dates fixed by political parties for their primaries.
Parties were permitted to conduct their primaries within the approved period of April 23 to May 30, 2026, with the understanding that membership registers would be submitted no later than 21 days before their respective primaries.INEC confirmed that all political parties complied with the requirement within the extended timeframe.
The Commission has stated that the submitted registers will now be subjected to necessary verification processes in line with the provisions of the law.The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to the conduct of free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections leading up to the 2027 General Election.
