A Sierra Leonean national, Favour Foday Kamara, has been arraigned before the Lagos State High Court in Nigeria over allegations that he fraudulently converted $190,324 belonging to a 70-year-old United States-based Sierra Leonean woman.
Kamara was arraigned on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, before Justice O. A. Okunuga at the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja, on a two-count charge bordering on alleged stealing and fraudulent conversion, according to reports citing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The complainant, Henrietta Vandi, alleged that she met Kamara during a visit to the Synagogue Church of All Nations between 2019 and 2020. She reportedly told investigators that Kamara subsequently encouraged her to invest in Nigeria.
According to the EFCC, Vandi allegedly transferred money through Ria, Western Union, MoneyGram and cash transactions into Kamara’s Access Bank account to finance the purchase and renovation of a property at 20/30 Gbenga Ogunleye/Atobatele Street, Cele Bus Stop, Araromi, Alimosho, Lagos.
The commission alleged that investigations showed the property was purchased in Kamara’s name and that he resides there and collects rent from tenants.
One of the charges alleges that Kamara dishonestly converted $190,324 belonging to Vandi for his personal use between August 2021 and February 2025. The alleged offence is said to contravene Sections 278(1)(b) and 285(9) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Kamara pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to him in court.
Following his plea, prosecution counsel, Nnaemeka Omewa, asked the court to fix a trial date and remand the defendant in a correctional facility.
Justice Okunuga subsequently ordered that Kamara be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre and adjourned the case until October 29, 2026, for further proceedings.
The allegations have yet to be proven in court, and Kamara remains presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
