Sustained pressure by troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) is yielding significant results, forcing the surrender of terrorist fighters and leading to the destruction of key enclaves across Borno State.
In a series of intensified operations this week, the Nigerian military has recorded dual successes in its campaign against terrorism in the North East, compelling the surrender of fighters while systematically dismantling their strongholds.

The recent gains are attributed to the ongoing Operation DESERT SANITY V. On Saturday, 10 January 2026, sustained offensive pressure along the Azir–Wajiroko axis forced 11 Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorist fighters to surrender. The terrorists laid down their arms, turning in their AK-47 rifles and assorted ammunition to troops.
In a major offensive a day earlier, on 9 January, troops conducted extensive clearance operations targeting the Bulaagalda cluster. During this operation, several active terrorist enclaves and camps were destroyed in communities including Dagumba, Bonne, Yaganari, Gosuri, and Umchile. Notably, the camps of notorious terrorist commanders Abu Nazir and Abu Ahmed were among those razed.
Military sources report that troops dismantled life-support structures and degraded terrorist logistics in the area. Items recovered from the destroyed camps included terrorist flags, weapons, and ammunition magazines.
The offensive was extended to the Yale and Bula Gaida areas, forcing terrorists to flee and leading to the destruction of additional logistics facilities. A general-purpose machine gun was among the weapons recovered.
In a separate engagement, acting on credible intelligence, troops confronted JAS/ISWAP elements between Sojiri and Kayamla villages. The firefight resulted in the neutralization of 8 terrorists and the recovery of more AK-47 rifles.
Further disrupting the terrorist network, troops arrested 2 suspected terrorist logistics collaborators in the Gubio Local Government Area. They are accused of supplying critical materials to the insurgents.
In a statement, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer for the Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, reaffirmed the military’s resolve. “Troops remain resolute in sustaining offensive pressure, dismantling terrorist networks, and restoring lasting peace and security across the North East region,” he stated.
