The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has condemned the deadly attack on its Bakin Ruwa checkpoint under the Tuga Border Patrol Formation in Kebbi State, where suspected Lakuwawa terrorists killed three officers during a late-night raid.
The Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja by the Service Public Relations Officer (SPRO), Akinsola Akinlabi. According to the statement, the attack occurred at about 10:00 p.m. on Thursday when unidentified armed men stormed the checkpoint, opening fire on officers and destroying several operational assets and facilities.
Ms Nandap described the killing of the officers as a heartbreaking loss to the service and to the nation, noting that the personnel died while performing their constitutional duty of safeguarding Nigeria’s borders. She extended condolences to the families, colleagues, and loved ones of the slain officers, praising their bravery and selfless sacrifice.
In response to the incident, the Comptroller-General ordered an immediate tactical action plan, including the deployment of reinforcements to the affected border formation and intensified joint operations with sister security agencies across the Tuga axis. She also directed the strengthening of intelligence-gathering operations and the activation of heightened patrols to forestall further attacks and re-establish full security control in the area.
Ms Nandap reaffirmed the readiness of the Nigeria Immigration Service to continue defending the nation’s borders despite the growing threats posed by terrorist elements. She urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as efforts to secure the region are intensified.
The NIS assured Nigerians that it remains committed to confronting criminal networks targeting border communities and to ensuring that the country’s territorial integrity is never compromised.
