Blessing Sherriff Agbebaku, former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, has debunked media reports claiming he was impeached, insisting that he voluntarily resigned from office.
In a statement released on Monday, Agbebaku explained that on 17th August 2026, he personally tendered his resignation letter on the floor of the House. The letter was handed to Hon. Ojeizele Sunny, who presented it to the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Atu Osawonyi, then presiding over plenary.
Agbebaku noted that he also addressed the House publicly to announce his decision, and the proceedings were covered by television stations and other media outlets.
“Resignation and impeachment are two entirely different constitutional and parliamentary processes. Political narratives cannot be allowed to rewrite documented history,” he stated.
He emphasized that his resignation letter, video footage of plenary, television reports, and eyewitnesses all confirm that his exit was voluntary.
The lawmaker, who still represents Owan West Constituency, reaffirmed his commitment to effective representation and loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Facts are sacred. History must not be rewritten,” he added.
