…Adeleke thanks President for ensuring free and fair poll
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has once again thrown his weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s re-election ambition, using his victory speech to renew his endorsement of the President for the 2027 presidential race.
Speaking on Sunday after his re-election in Saturday’s governorship contest, Adeleke described President Tinubu as a “son of Osun State” and reiterated his commitment to supporting the President’s second-term bid.
“I have said it before and I will say it again. Mr President is a son of Osun, and I stand by my earlier endorsement of him for 2027,” the governor told his supporters.
The re-elected governor also took time to acknowledge President Tinubu’s role in ensuring that the Osun election was conducted without interference. He noted that the President’s commitment to democratic principles was evident in the transparency of the electoral process.
“Mr President called me personally to congratulate me, and I thank him for making sure democracy continues to thrive in this country. He fought for democracy, and we are all beneficiaries,” Adeleke said.
The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Adeleke winner of Saturday’s election with 511,067 votes, defeating his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who polled 444,815 votes. ADC candidate Najeem Salaam finished a distant third with 17,180 votes.
Adeleke’s victory was decisive, as he secured 19 of the 30 local government areas in the state, including his strongholds of Ede North and Ede South, as well as major centres like Osogbo, Iwo, and Ife East.
Speaking further, the governor promised to continue his developmental agenda, with plans to transform Osun from a predominantly civil-service economy into an industrial hub during his second term.
“Osun people have spoken. They have acknowledged the work we have done, and they want more. I will not disappoint them,” he declared.
He also extended a hand of fellowship to his opponents, insisting that there was no room for bitterness.
“This is no victor, no vanquished. I expect my brother Oyebamiji to reach out. We are all working for Osun,” Adeleke said.
Adeleke had initially endorsed President Tinubu for a second term in May 2026, citing federal government projects in Osun, including the ongoing reconstruction of the Ibadan-Ile Ife-Ilesa expressway. He had argued at the time that supporting Tinubu was both a moral obligation and a strategic decision for the development of the South-West.
Saturday’s victory secures the governor another four years in office, cementing the dominance of his party in Osun after months of intense campaigns, legal battles, and high-stakes political maneuvering.
