A 41-year-old hotel manager, Samson Dogo, was arraigned on Tuesday in a Kaduna Magistrates’ Court for stealing four CCTV cameras worth N2.4 million at his workplace.
The police charged Mr Dogo, of Sabon Tasha Kaduna, with criminal conspiracy and theft.
The prosecution counsel, Chidi Leo, told the court that on May 4 at about 10:30 a.m., the complainant, Vincent Clement, reported the matter at Sabo Police Station.
Mr Leo alleged that the complainant received a call from the information technology officer of the hotel located in Barnawa, Kaduna, informing him that four CCTV cameras were missing from the hotel.
He alleged that the defendant and one Mr David, now at large, both employed in the hotel, were captured on CCTV footage removing the cameras.
Mr Leo told the court that during police investigation, the defendant could not give a satisfactory account of his actions.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 59 and 217 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017.
Section 58 stipulates a two-year jail term if found guilty, while Section 217 stipulates a five-year jail term if found guilty.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The defence counsel, Sidi Hamza, moved a motion for bail for his client in the most liberal terms, promising that the defendant will not jump bail if granted.
The prosecution counsel, however, did not object to the bail application made by the defence counsel.
The magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, admitted the defendant to bail of N500,000 and one surety in like sum.
Mr Emmanuel ordered that the surety must provide a BVN printout, a recent passport photograph and a valid identification card, which must be verified by the court registrar.
He adjourned the matter until June 25 for hearing.
