Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has issued a stern one-month ultimatum to Raffoul Nigeria Limited, the contractor handling the 6.5-kilometre Woji–Aleto–Alesa–Refinery Road, warning that failure to complete the project will lead to the contract’s termination.
Governor Fubara delivered the warning during an unscheduled inspection of the project site on Friday. He was visibly displeased, expressing frustration over the contractor’s slow pace of work despite multiple variations and financial reviews already granted to ensure the project’s completion.
“We came to inspect one of our major projects, and I must say I feel highly disappointed. This contract was awarded around June 2020 by my predecessor,” the governor stated. “I even approved two variations to help them deliver a quality job. Yet, to my greatest surprise, there is little progress to show for it.”
He recalled that the project had been reviewed and revoked under the state’s previous emergency administration but said his government decided to give the contractor a fresh opportunity.
That patience, however, has now run out. “If they can’t complete this job within one month, I will revert to the position of the administrator during the emergency period. We can’t keep wasting time and resources on unproductive contractors,” he warned.
The governor also condemned ongoing dredging activities near the bridge, describing it as dangerous. “How could anyone be dredging so close to a bridge? Is that proper? If I come here again or hear that dredging is still happening around this bridge, I will personally lead the operation to dismantle that dredger myself,” Fubara said.
Since resuming duty after the suspension of emergency rule, Governor Fubara has embarked on a series of project inspections, directing contractors to accelerate work to recover lost time.
