Kaigama Umar, Yobe’s commissioner for commerce, industry and tourism, says Governor Mai Buni’s developmental achievements will shape the party’s 2027 election campaign.
Mr Umar said the administration’s performance gave the APC a foundation to engage voters ahead of the general elections. He spoke on Thursday ahead of the formal inauguration of the state campaign organisation and the party’s 2027 campaign flag-off.
Mr Umar, who is also the director-general of the Yobe State APC 2027 Campaign Organisation, said the campaign would emphasise continuity, consolidation and unity.
He said the party would present its governance record, highlight previous administrations’ contributions and outline its commitment to sustaining development.
Mr Umar said, “The performance of Governor Buni’s administration has given us a strong foundation to engage the electorate. Our responsibility is to communicate these achievements effectively, build on the legacies of successive leaders and show why continuity and consolidation are essential to sustaining Yobe’s development.”
He said the APC was building on foundations established by successive administrations rather than starting afresh.
“We are building on the solid foundations laid by successive administrations and the remarkable progress recorded under Governor Buni,” he said.
Mr Umar identified the late former governors Bukar Abba Ibrahim and Mamman Ali, Ibrahim Gaidam and Mr Buni as contributors to Yobe’s development.
He said sustaining their development initiatives was important, particularly as Baba Wali prepares to build on Mr Buni’s achievements and institutional foundations.
Mr Umar said the campaign would extend beyond conventional political mobilisation to address issues affecting citizens’ lives and livelihoods. He said its three central pillars would be continuity, consolidation and unity, with emphasis on ongoing projects, policies and party cohesion.
According to him, the campaign will also give citizens opportunities to engage with the APC’s development agenda and its proposed priorities.
The campaign director-general pledged to organise a disciplined, inclusive and issue-based campaign across the state’s 17 local government areas. He said its success would require collective commitment from party leaders, elected officials, stakeholders, supporters and campaign structures.
Mr Umar said preparations would begin immediately, with emphasis on strategic planning, coordinated media engagement and grassroots mobilisation.
He added that the party would maintain effective communication across all levels to ensure coordinated campaign activities.
