Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State has expressed profound grief over the death of Mr. Kani Ben, a cameraman with Channels Television, who died from injuries sustained in a road accident while on official duty in Bauchi.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, the governor said Mr. Ben was among journalists covering the commissioning of projects executed by the North-East Development Commission (NEDC) alongside the Minister of State for Regional Development when the accident occurred.
Despite efforts by medical personnel to save his life, Mr. Ben died in the early hours of Sunday at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi.
Governor Mohammed described the loss as painful and heartbreaking, noting that the late cameraman died in active service while fulfilling his professional responsibility of informing the public.
He commended Mr. Ben’s dedication, courage, and commitment to journalism, stating that his sacrifice reflects the risks media professionals face daily in the line of duty.
The governor extended his condolences to Mr. Ben’s family, the management and staff of Channels Television, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), and the broader media community.
He also assured journalists of the Bauchi State Government’s continued respect and support, emphasizing solidarity with media practitioners during this difficult time.
Governor Mohammed prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul and for strength and comfort for his loved ones and colleagues.
“Bauchi State stands with the media community in mourning this painful loss and remains committed to supporting journalists who risk their lives in service to society,” the statement said.
