Rivers state Governor, Siminalayi Fubara is currently said to be weighing an option to withdraw from his gubernatorial reelection bid on the platform of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC)This political development is predicated on a recommendation said to be given to Fubara after the Rivers State Political Stakeholders’ closed doors meeting held yesterday in portHarcourt, capital of the state.
An Insider sources who pleaded anonymity told Spear News Nigeria that the Governor was advised to withdraw from his reelection bid under the ruling APC.In his words, “The governor yesterday was asked to withdraw from his gubernatorial reelection bid under the APC.
“He was, however, asked to think about it. But Fubara, has not yet, said anything in response. Maybe, before the time slated for the guber primaries tomorrow Thursday May 21, we shall know his position “.
Meanwhile, Political analysts said the way the ruling party’s primaries was so far conducted and following the emergence of the winners coming only from the political camp of Barr. Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory, (FCT), Fubara’s reelection bid may not be guaranteed under the APC platform.
Spear News Nigeria, however, recalls that the national secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has disqualified scores of aspirants aligned to Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers, from the party’s 2027 state legislature primaries.
A screening list released by the APC showed that more than 60 aspirants were not cleared to contest the assembly primaries across various constituencies in the state.
Several of those affected are believed to be loyalists of Fubara and members of his political camp amid the lingering crisis in Rivers politics.
Among those not cleared are Berebupakabo Isaac Sekibo, Tamunodiepriye Fubara Goodluck Ohaka, Tonye Garrick Tom-George, Prince Emukighro Fubara, and Tamunobaraiba George.
The list also reflected aspirants from constituencies including Okrika, Khana, Omuma, Ahoada East, Obio/Akpor, Ikwerre, Andoni and Akuku-Toru were affected by the screening outcome.
The APC cleared 33 aspirants for the assembly primaries. Several of those cleared are allies of FCT minister Nyesom Wike. Those cleared include Maol Dumle, Tonye Smart Adoki, Kenneth Minimah, Justina Aniton Okorji and Arnold O. Davids.
The approval came days after the APC screened out several aspirants aligned with Fubara from the party’s senate and house of representatives primaries in Rivers state. As at the time of filing this report neither Fubara nor the APC national leadership has made any official statement.
Yet, the APC gubernatorial primaries is slated to hold tomorrow in Rivers state and, it is believed that Fubara’s political future still hangs in the balance given the evolving party dynamics.
