The Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment has invited disengaged field officers of the Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL Plc) to a rescheduled conciliation meeting over their contract expiration dispute.
The meeting, initially scheduled for May 2025, was postponed following a request from NIRSAL Plc’s management.
The new date has been set for Thursday, 24th July 2025, at 11:00 AM, and will hold at the Honourable Minister’s Conference Room, 2nd Floor, Federal Secretariat, Abuja.
The dispute stems from the termination of contracts of 400 NIRSAL field officers, who have since petitioned the government over the issue.
An official letter titled, “Disengaged NIRSAL Plc Field Officers,” exclusively obtained by Spear News, cites alleged unjust disengagement and was among numerous protest letters the staff have written since their termination in December 2024, when they were laid off without reasonable compensation.
In a letter signed by Falonipe Amos O., Director of Trade Union Services and Industrial Relations, on behalf of the Honourable Minister, the Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to resolving the issue amicably.
The upcoming meeting is expected to provide a platform for dialogue between the aggrieved officers and NIRSAL management.
NIRSAL Plc, a federal government initiative, was established to de-risk agricultural financing and stimulate agribusiness growth. However, recent workforce restructuring has led to protests and appeals from affected staff.
