The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has accused the Labour Party 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, of engaging in a secret pact to become the running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the 2027 election.
The accusation was levelled in a lengthy post on Keyamo’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, directly challenging Obi’s ongoing public posture, which he described as fake.
The accusation followed Obi’s formal defection from Labour Party to ADC on Wednesday 31st December, 2025.
Keyamo asserted that Obi’s recent political gimmicks, including his consultations and sustained public engagements, constitute a “dishonest” façade intended to deceive his supporters, known as ‘Obidients.’
The minister claimed that Obi has a “firm agreement” with Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election, to be his Vice-Presidential candidate.
“It is dishonest to take your faithful supporters through this emotional roller-coaster and deceive them that you are running for the Presidency when in fact you have just joined a Party belonging solely to Atiku Abubakar and you have a firm agreement with him to run as Vice-Presidential candidate,” Keyamo wrote.
Keyamo framed Obi’s alleged actions as a profound betrayal of the political movement he built after leaving the PDP in 2022 for the Labour Party.
“You went through all those troubles of leaving PDP in 2023 and joining Labour Party and building a whole movement just to prove a point to Atiku that you are good enough to be his running mate and no other person. Sad. Really sad,” the minister added.
He further taunted Obi, suggesting his “greatest fall from your supposed grace to grass” would come when he publicly announces the decision, which Keyamo described as the “worst kept secret.”
Keyamo predicted that the alleged alliance would backfire, stating, “Nigerians will teach you a bitter lesson in 2027; they are no fools.”
Responding to potential claims that his outburst stemmed from fear of a united opposition, Keyamo dismissed the notion, stating, “We laugh. Fear?… No, we shall beam the searchlight on you too as you do on us. Let Nigerians decide; let the game begin.”
He concluded with a pointed demographic prediction, asserting that “Atiku and Obi will realise that they made the worst demographic calculations in their entire lives based on the 2023 Presidential Election results.”
