The Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, has described the 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, as a chronic liar, accusing him of twisting facts surrounding a recent airport incident for political gain.
Keyamo made the remark on Thursday night during an interview on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’.
“That man was lying. He lies like a fish drinking water. He lies. He lies for fun,” the Minister said.
According to Keyamo, Obi had gone public with complaints that he was harassed by aviation officials at the airport and that the treatment meted out to him was politically motivated because of his status as an opposition figure.
The Minister, however, dismissed the allegation, saying Obi failed to provide any evidence to back his claim or allow the ministry to investigate the matter before going public.
“He was the one that complained that he was being harassed at the airport and that because of his opposition status, he was harassed,” Keyamo said.
He argued that it was irresponsible for a politician of Obi’s standing to make such sweeping accusations against hardworking government officials without first giving the authorities an opportunity to respond.
Keyamo stressed that airport operations are guided by established professional standards and insisted that there was no basis for claims of politically targeted harassment against any passenger.
The NDC presidential candidate had earlier raised concerns over what he described as the growing intimidation of opposition figures by federal agencies, citing his experience at the airport as a case in point.
But Keyamo fired back, accusing Obi of playing the victim and attempting to whip up public sympathy ahead of the 2027 elections.
