The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police has urged residents to always obey traffic regulations and respect officers carrying out their lawful duties on the roads.
In a statement posted on the Commandโs official X account on Saturday, the Commissioner cautioned against offering money or inducements to traffic officers, describing such acts as not only inappropriate but also unlawful.
โThe Commissioner of Police advises members of the public to always obey traffic regulations and show respect to traffic officers carrying out their lawful duties. He further cautions that offering money or inducements to officers is not only inappropriate but also unlawful,โ the statement read.
He reminded motorists and other road users that safety on the roads is a collective duty, stressing that reckless driving, disregard for traffic signals, and attempts to corrupt officers contribute to avoidable accidents and insecurity.
The Commissioner further urged residents to embrace the principle of vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement. โSafety on our roads is a shared responsibility. See something, say something,โ he added.
The Command encouraged the public to promptly report any suspicious activities, traffic emergencies, or misconduct through its emergency hotline: 08032003193.
In recent months, the FCT Police Command has stepped up enforcement of traffic laws across Abuja, with officers deployed at major intersections and highways to manage congestion and deter reckless driving. Authorities say the warning against inducements to officers is part of ongoing efforts to curb corruption and strengthen trust between the police and the public.
