Lagos, Nigeria – The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced a partial closure of the access road linking Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2 (MMA2) and the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) this Saturday, October 18, 2025. The temporary closure is to accommodate the Nigerian Air Force’s annual 10km walk/jog exercise.
In a travel advisory issued to the public, FAAN stated that the partial road closure will be in effect from 06:00 hours on Saturday morning. The authority emphasized that while the exercise will affect road access, airport operations will continue uninterrupted, with all scheduled flights operating normally.
“Security personnel would be deployed along access roads to direct traffic and ensure safety,” the advisory confirmed. “The access roads would be completely opened immediately after the exercise.”
FAAN specifically advised passengers and airport users to plan their movements accordingly, warning that localized traffic disruptions may occur around the airport vicinity during the exercise period. The authority particularly highlighted the road section between MMA2 and the international airport as being affected.
The annual military exercise is a routine activity that requires temporary access to the airport road infrastructure. Similar exercises have been conducted in previous years, typically causing minimal disruption to airport activities while allowing the Air Force to maintain its physical readiness programs.
While flight operations will not be affected, travelers are advised to allocate extra time for their journey to the airport on Saturday morning to account for potential traffic delays. The authority expects normal traffic flow to resume immediately following the conclusion of the exercise.
FAAN expressed regret for any inconvenience caused and appreciated the public’s understanding and cooperation. The authority assured that all necessary measures have been put in place to ensure minimal disruption to airport activities and the safety of all road users during the exercise period.
