In a significant blow to the opposition, a senior figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dramatically resigned, accusing the party of losing its “moral compass.”
Rt. Hon. SKE Udeh-Okoye, who until recently served as the National Secretary, submitted his resignation letter to his ward chairman in Agbogugu, Enugu State. In the letter, he expressed gratitude for the opportunities the party afforded him, including serving as a member of the Enugu State House of Assembly and National Youth Leader.
However, Udeh-Okoye stated that after deep reflection, he could no longer remain with the PDP. He lamented that the party founded on principles of “unity, justice, and equity” had strayed from the vision of its founding fathers.
“The PDP that once stood as a beacon of hope for democratic governance has regrettably lost its moral compass and ideological direction,” he wrote.
Concluding that he could not, in good conscience, stay in a system that had lost its way, Udeh-Okoye declared he is now compelled to part ways. He announced his intention to embark on a “progressive journey” dedicated to restoring the values of democracy and accountability.
This resignation represents a major loss for the PDP, removing a key figure from its national leadership and highlighting deepening internal divisions just two years before the next general election.
