Prominent members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State, led by businessman and philanthropist Jerry Joseph Damara and former Deputy Governor Thaโanda Rubainu, have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defectors pledged their full support to the administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, stating their decision was driven by a desire to contribute to the state’s development.
Damara, a well known figure in Kaltungo Local Government Area for his extensive community interventions, formally announced his switch on Thursday, September 4, in Gombe.
During a courtesy visit to the Governor, he presented his new APC membership card.
He was joined by Thaโanda Rubainu, who served as deputy governor under former Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo from 2011 to 2015.
The move is seen as a major boost for the APC, particularly in the Gombe South senatorial district, as a cohort of other influential PDP members from the region also made the switch.
