The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State has moved the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to electoral wards in the area.
Virginius Aniekwe, the assistant electoral officer of INEC in Nsukka, disclosed this in an interview with journalists on Monday in Nsukka.
Mr Aniekwe said the move had become necessary to make it easier for people in rural areas to collect their voter cards.
“The PVCs have been sorted out and moved to the 20 electoral wards in the area where it would be easier for people to collect their cards.
“The purpose is to enable registered voters to collect their PVCs and save them from traveling a long distance to INEC Office in Nsukka town.
“Nobody will now give excuses that he/she has no transport money to collect their cards.
“We will send our staff to the electoral wards daily to ensure that people have easy access to their PVCs,” he said.
When journalists visited Ibegwani Ward, some registered voters were seen collecting their PVCs at Central School, Ibagwani.
They thanked INEC for bringing the cards closer to the people.
Friday Ugwu an Jovita Ezema commended INEC, saying they would have spent about N2,000 each to go to the INEC office to collect their cards.
Onyema Idoko, a former chairman of Nsukka Local Government Council, who hails from Ibeagwa-Ani Ward, commended INEC for sending its staff to the wards.
At Nru Ward, Cyprian Ugwuaku, the president-general of Nru Federated Nsukka Town Union, expressed satisfaction with the distribution of the voter cards.
“I applaud INEC for this beautiful arrangement that will save registered voters the inconveniences and transport fares to go to the INEC Office in Nsukka town,” he said.
INEC fixed October 9 to October 15 for the nationwide collection of newly issued PVCs ahead of the 2027 general elections.
